P34’s on set at the filming of Rush
Written by Jay Walker. Posted in P34 Pictures
These pictures where taken during the filming of RUSH, a new film by director Ron Howard which will chronicle the competition between Niki Lauda and James Hunt during the 1976 Formula 1 Season. The No 4 car is chassis No. P34/2 which was raced by Patrick Depailler during 1976. The number 3 car is the 1977 chassis P34/6 which is currently run by Martin Stretton dressed up to look like a 1976 car.
The Film is still in production and is due to be released sometime next year. This is the first time in 35 years that two P34’s have been seen together.
The shots were taken during filming at a set near Fleet. The film producers hired a disused airfield and built a replica 1976 pit complex complete with grandstands filled with dummies. I expect there will be some clever CGI in the final film to make these dummies look a little more life like.
My thanks goes to P34 forum member (alias p34insider) who obtained the shots and a great little video clip of a movie take during filming which can be seen in our video section here. You can read more about this great project in our news section here.
Enjoy these unique and exclusive pictures.
