RUSH – Movie
Project 34 – News
We reported on this Movie when it was still being fillmed last year, if you havent already seen our exclusive pictures of two P34’s on set then be sure to do so, you can check them out in the picture gallery, we also have a few more exclusive pictures in the forum.
The film takes place in the world of Formula One racing during the 1970’s and focuses on the rivalry between Austrian driver Niki Lauda (Daniel Brühl) and British driver James Hunt (Chris Hemsworth) in the fight for the 1976 Drivers Championship.
As we all know this was the year the Tyrrell P34 Six wheeled car made its remakable apperance in the world of formula one. Whilst not the main focus of the film, we know that the director used two real P34’s and some mockups when making the film so we know the P34’s are going to be right in the thick of the on screen action. Lets hope they cover the Swiss Grand Prix at Anderstorp where the P34’s finished 1st and 2nd.
The footage on the trailer and the offical movie website looks fantastic, dramtic, up close and personal, I for one cant wait to see the film.
At the moment the film has been slated for a September release….so we have a few months to wait before we can see just how much on screen action the P34’s get.
Aside from our faverate F1 car making a Hollywood apperance, the story behind the movie is one of the firecest and remakable stories in the history of forumla one. It looks like the director and production crew have gone to great lengths to recreate the seat of the pants action that was the norm for that era of racing.
The best place to watch the trailer and other see some other gems is at the offical movie website :-

P34 to be a Hollywood Star
Project 34 – News
As some of you may know, there is a new film in production called RUSH. The film will chronicle the close rivalry between Niki Lauda and James Hunt during the 1976 F1 season. The film is being directed by Ron Howard who has directed past projects such as Apollo 13, The Da Vinci Code, Angels & Demons, Frost Nixon and A Beautiful Mind for which he won an Academy Award for best Director. So I think it fair to say the film is in very safe hands.
The script has been written by Peter Morgan and will star the actors Chris Hemsworth playing the role of James Hunt and Daniel Bruhl as Niki Lauda. I’m sure all F1 petrol heads are going to love this film but for me the real start of the movie are going to be the two 1976 P34’s.
Yep you read right, two 1976 Tyrrell Six Wheelers togther for the first time in 35 years. Filming for the movie started in February 2012, the producers built a 1976 recreation of a pit complex at a disused airport near fleet complete with grandstands populated with dummies !
The film stars the 1976 Depailler Chassis P34/2 which has been fully restored in the last few years and the Martin Stretton 1977 car chassis P34/6 dressed up in a 1976 body shell.
We have exclusively obtained some great pictures of the two cars in action during filming, as if that wasn’t enough we’ve also obtained some video of a real take during in the filming of a pivotal pit stop where Niki Lauda was delayed due to a car pulling into the wrong pit box gifting Hunt an advantage.
You can check out the exclusive pictures in our gallery here.
The video clip can be viewed here
We’ll do our best to keep all P34 fans up to date on this exciting project over the coming months.
Many many thanks goes to our latest Forum member alias P34insider for obtaining these great shots and video.
Enjoy
